Martin Hintz has been a freelance writer since 1975, after seven years with The Milwaukee Sentinel as an editor and reporter. He is the author of more than 100 books and hundreds of articles for major newspapers and consumer and trade periodicals. Among them have been Irish Music Magazine, Where to Retire Magazine, American Heritage, Interval, American Archaeology, St. Petersburg Times; Wisconsin Academy Review, National Geographic World, Billboard, Amusement Business, Midwest Express Magazine, Belfast News, City Lifestyle, Northshore Lifestyle, Dodge Van Magazine; Jewish Heartland, Travel Holiday, Corporate Report Wisconsin, GolfWeek, Milwaukee Magazine, Chicago Sun Times, Shepherd Express, Chicago Tribune, New York Post, Daily Herald, Jewish Chronicle, The Writer, Midwest Living, MotorHome, Meetings California, Dig, Michigan Living, Home & Away, M Magazine, Group Travel Leader, Bus Tour Magazine and others.
 
He and his wife, Pam Percy, also write the bi-monthly "Boris & Doris On the Town" column for the Shepherd Express newspaper, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
 
He is founder and publisher of The Irish American Post,which was launched as a newspaper in 1991, morphed into a magazine with 40,000 readers and posted its first on-line issue in 2001 (www.irishamericanpost.com).
 
HIntz has written cultural geographies and travel guides for Birnbaum, Globe Pequot, Fisher, Country Roads Press, Frommer/Macmillan, NTC Publishing/Passport, others.  Other books were written for Voyageur, Trails Media Group, Children's Press, Franklin Watts, Simon & Schuster, Lerner, Capstone;  Julian Messner, Franklin Watts, Reiman Publishing, Publications International and others.  He has also done editorial supervision and writing for Rand McNally and St. Remy Press (Reader's Digest).
 
 
Professional awards/honors include those from the International Hotel Marketing Association, International Festivals Association, Society of American Travel Writers, Midwest Travel Writers of America; Council for Wisconsin Writers and the Children’s Reading Roundtable of Chicago. 
 
Hintz is also the past president of the Society of American Travel Writers (2001-2002), and currently  is chair of the SATW Freelance Council. He is a member of the board of the Milwaukee chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Milwaukee County Federated Library system's North Shore Library.
 
 
He has a BA in journalism from the (then College) University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN., 1967, and a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill, 1968.
